Building on Year One 1095-A Form Success: Marketplaces’ Recommendations for Future Tax Seasons

Prepared for the State Health Reform Assistance Network

“Building on Year One 1095-A Form Success: Marketplaces’ Recommendations for Future Tax Seasons” highlights how the State-based Marketplaces and the Federally-facilitated Marketplace were generally successful in executing consumer-facing reporting requirements during the first tax season. In the upcoming tax season, estimates indicate that hundreds of millions of 1095 forms—including new 1095-Bs and 1095-Cs—will be distributed, and that many people will receive more than one type of form. The recommendations offered in this brief not only serve Marketplaces in their process improvement efforts, but can also inform and prepare new form issuers like Medicaid and CHIP agencies, insurers and employers.
