Manatt Deepens National Tax Practice on East Coast

Megan Christensen Brings New Markets Tax Credit, Nonprofit Experience to Growing D.C. Office.

Manatt announced today that Megan A. Christensen has joined the firm’s Tax, Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice as a partner in its Washington, D.C., office. Christensen comes to Manatt from Blank Rome LLP.

Christensen concentrates her practice on federal income taxation and advises both taxable and tax-exempt clients on a broad array of issues, including the New Markets Tax Credit program, exempt status, nonprofit governance, Subchapter S corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies. She also counsels clients with regard to federal and state civil tax matters, including audits, administrative appeals, and litigation.

“Megan possesses a profound knowledge of tax credits, particularly with respect to the New Markets Tax Credit program and historic tax credits,” said Ben Orlanski, chair of Manatt’s Business, Finance and Tax group. “She is a highly regarded transactional attorney who has the skills, experience and enthusiasm we’ve been looking for in this niche, yet valuable area. We welcome Megan to Manatt.”

“I’ve worked closely with Manatt corporate and finance lawyers on past transactions and have long admired the sophistication of their counsel and creative approaches,” said Christensen. “The opportunity to work alongside such a well-rounded and talented group of attorneys, combined with the firm’s cross-disciplinary platform, was a pivotal factor in my decision to join Manatt.”

Currently Christensen serves as chair of the programs subcommittee of the ABA Business Section’s Nonprofit Organization Committee and contributes a quarterly column to the committee’s newsletter.

Her arrival comes on the heels of energy professional Simon Boyce’s addition and continues a strategic expansion of the Washington, D.C. office. Other recent arrivals in Washington, D.C., include former Medicaid official Cindy Mann.

Manatt’s Tax, Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group counsels corporations, partnerships and individuals on a broad range of federal, state, local and international tax matters. They have considerable experience providing long-range business tax planning and analyzing the tax aspects of corporate transactions, from mergers and acquisitions to public offerings, real estate matters to ESOPs, and syndications to joint ventures. They also represent clients in audits, tax dispute litigation and collection matters before agencies and courts.

Christensen earned her B.A. from the College of William & Mary, her J.D. from Washington University School of Law, and her LL.M Tax from New York University School of Law.
