Manatt’s Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, a managing director with Manatt Health, spoke to The Washington Post about the conflict between state governments and the Trump administration on public health coverage.

Six states are considering a public option for healthcare, either as a stand-alone plan or as a buy-in to Medicare or Medicaid. However, the Trump administration has put an emphasis on private care options and has said states must request permission for these plans via waivers.

“When you look at the new guidance, there’s an emphasis on private options,” Brooks-LaSure said. “We would just have to see what the administration would say if a state came up with a waiver proposal.
