Industry Figures Discuss Legacy of CalAPA Environmental Committee

CalAPA Environmental Committee: A Legacy of Education, Advocacy on Behalf of the Asphalt Industry
– California Asphalt Magazine

Manatt’s Craig Moyer, leader of the firm’s energy and environmental practice, spoke with California Asphalt Magazine on his work with the CalAPA Environmental Committee.

The CalAPA Environmental Committee educates member companies about safety, environmental and health regulations as well as best practices and effective strategies for compliance, according to California Asphalt Magazine.

Moyer said he is proud of his work with the organization on its Proposition 65 settlement, which covered exposures to chemicals in asphalt and all listed chemicals, including crystalline silica, chromium and tobacco smoke.

“In spite of what most folks said we could accomplish, the association secured protection for participants from the nuisance lawsuits that [have] harried other industries for decades,” he said.

Moyer also noted that the proposition was a “complicated structure that covered everyone from the refiners through the manufacturers to the contractors and even retailers.”
