The Importance of Understanding Intellectual Property Strategy

IP and the Board: ‘New Territory’ With Significant Risks
– Agenda

Manatt’s Irah Donner, a partner in the firm’s intellectual property practice, was quoted by Agenda for an article on the need for companies to better understand their intellectual property strategy.

The publication noted that although intellectual property assets represent a large percentage of a company’s value, boards of directors have only recently been pushed to develop an intellectual property strategy. Without one, the publication notes, companies can lose a  competitive edge and face the risk of litigation.

“As the percentage of the company value continues to increase, I think we will see some more attention drawn to [questions such as] ‘What was the board informed about?’ [and] ‘Did the board ask the right questions if it was something that was considered to be material to the company?’” said Donner.
