States May Run Their Own Exchanges

States May Increasingly Return to Own Exchanges to Maximize Role
– Inside Health Policy

Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, was interviewed by Inside Health Policy for an article on state-based exchanges in the insurance marketplace.

The publication stated that state-based marketplaces might start popping up. A couple of benefits noted were broader authority to use the Affordable Care Act’s state innovation waivers and the ability to escape a premium fee that comes with using a federal platform.

Ario noted that Nevada has contracted with GetInsured to get a state-run exchange up and running in 2020, and that New Mexico and Oregon are considering taking on this opportunity as well.
