Peaceful ACA Hearing May Show Promise for Bipartisanship

ACA Peace Breaks Out After Years of Partisan Combat
– Law360

Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, was quoted by Law360 on a recent Capitol Hill hearing where Republicans and Democrats spent several hours calmly and constructively discussing the Affordable Care Act.

According to the publication, this strikingly peaceful scene comes on the heels of eight years of partisan warfare as both parties work toward a goal of passing a small set of ACA tweaks before October. Lawmakers appeared open to streamlining the process for obtaining waivers from ACA regulations, which can be accomplished by not requiring states to formally enact legislation when seeking waivers.

“A process approach, for now, is the one that’s more likely to garner broad support,” said Ario.
