The Future of the ACA Under President-Elect Trump

What to Watch as Obamacare Becomes Trumpcare
– Law360

Law360 interviewed Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, for an article about the future of the Affordable Care Act as President-Elect Donald J. Trump takes office.

By the time Trump, who has endorsed a full repeal of the ACA, takes office in January, the ACA will be almost seven years old, and its fourth open enrollment period will be nearly complete. Observers are skeptical that the changes affecting consumers, providers and insurers could be scrapped wholesale without unleashing chaos.

“If there’s a single political lesson in Obamacare, it’s to be very careful about disrupting people’s health care coverage,” said Ario. “So that now works in favor of the law rather than against it.”

“They will have to go through the motions of attempting to repeal. They will have to attempt these things,” Ario continued. "But they’ll find it very tough to do.”
