O’Brien to Speak at NASEM’s Drug Forum on Building Community Practices into a Clinical Trials Network

Manatt Health National Advisor Donna O’Brien will speak on October 12th in Washington DC at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Forum on Drug Discovery, Development, and Translation on the topic of Expanding Clinical Trials into Community Hospitals and Health Systems. This invitation was a result of the white paper Achieving Clinical Trial Diversity: Expanding Hospital Capacity to Offer Clinical Trials in the Community that O’Brien co-authored with Rachel Sher.

The National Academies Drug Forum is working on an action collaborative focused on community-based practices engaging in clinical trials. The goal of this collaborative, an ad hoc activity associated with the Drug Forum, is to better understand the opportunities and challenges for community-based practices, particularly those serving underserved populations, to engage in the clinical trials enterprise. Over the coming year, the National Academies will organize and conduct a series of listening sessions around the United States for stakeholders working in community practices.
