– City & State

City & State has honored Manatt’s Bruce Gyory, a senior advisor with the firm’s government and regulatory practice, with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in national and New York politics. The award, which is part of the publication’s “50 Over 50” feature, will be presented at an awards reception at the Ainsworth Midtown in Manhattan on January 30. Gyory is one of only ten individuals to receive this honor.

This second annual issue of the publication’s 50 Over 50 Awards aims to recognize 50 New York leaders who have distinguished themselves by helping the city in civic affairs. From crime prevention to law enforcement to inspiring nonprofits, the list highlights a wide array of local leaders—some widely known and others who have become influential behind the scenes.

Gyory began his political career at the early age of five, handing out literature and campaigning with his father, a leader in the labor movement, during the 1960 presidential campaign. Since then, Gyory has accrued over 28 years of experience working as an attorney, and has served three governors of New York, two as a senior advisor. Gyory also serves as an adjunct professor of political science at the University of Albany, focusing on national and state voting trends.

“It is my hope that I took that love of political history and used it to help others light candles rather than to curse the darkness,” Gyory told City & State.
