6 Changes In California's New Draft Privacy Regulations

Manatt’s CEO and managing partner Donna Wilson and privacy and data security practice co-leader Scott Lashway, partner Brandon Reilly and counsel Kaylee Bankston authored an article for Law360 on the California Attorney General’s Office’s recently modified California Consumer Privacy Act draft regulations. In the article, they briefly summarize six notable amendments that introduce improvements on ambiguous wording seen in the October version of the proposed regulations. That said, the authors note the persisting ambiguities and challenges, saying, “it remains to be seen whether any further modifications by the attorney general will provide clarity around organizations’ compliance obligations, though the full breadth of the CCPA regime likely will be further revealed through forthcoming litigation and enforcement activity.”
