Manatt’s New York State Government Relations Practice Authors Memo on JCOPE’s Mandatory On-Line Training for Lobbyists

On Friday, September 26, 2014, the New York State Joint Commission on Public Ethics (JCOPE) announced the availability on its website of the “Mandatory On-Line Training for Lobbyists,” which must be completed by December 31, 2014.

The training is intended to cover ethics rules and guidance found in the New York State Lobbying Act, the Public Officers Law, JCOPE regulations and advisory opinions, and the Election Law. The training also includes best practices for meeting various requirements.

All lobbyists listed on a JCOPE Registration Statement for both the 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 Biennial Reporting Periods are required to complete the online training by December 31, 2014. Lobbyists registered for the 2014-2015 reporting period and each reporting period thereafter must complete the online training course once every three years.
