Employer Allegedly Coerces Campaign Contributions

Manatt's Randall Keen, a partner in the firm's Government and Regulatory Policy practice, was interviewed by the Los Angeles Business Journal for an article on the allegations that Managed Career Solutions violated campaign laws.

As reported by the Los Angeles Business Journal, a former employee of Managed Career Solutions has filed suit against the company's owner, alleging that employees were coerced to donate to political campaigns in an effort to secure contracts. The owner and his employees made campaign contributions despite the 2011 passage of a ballot measure banning contractors from donating to city election campaigns.

"People can always find a way to make contributions or support candidates they want to support," said Keen, who reviewed the legal case for the Business Journal. "I think laws like this a lot of times don't capture the activity they were intended to capture."
