Reilly Quoted in Bloomberg Law on California Privacy Protection Agency’s Delayed Privacy Rules

California’s Late Privacy Rules Crunch Prep Time for Companies
– Bloomberg Law

Manatt Privacy and Data Security Partner Brandon Reilly was quoted in Bloomberg Law on how businesses may be negatively affected in light of the CPPA's announcement that rulemaking for California's landmark privacy law will be delayed until the end of the year instead of the original July 1 deadline.

It may be difficult for businesses to effectively implement the necessary changes to their business plans to comply with the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 before the rules take effect in 2023. “I’m glad to see the CPPA is taking more time rather than rush things,” said Reilly. “That said, the result is that businesses are going to be hard-pressed to conform their readiness programs to comply with that January 1 effective date.”
