ACA Open Enrollment Sees 600K Signups in First Week

Obamacare Signups Surging in PA, NJ and Nationally. Will It Last?
– Philly.com

Manatt’s Joel Ario, a managing director with Manatt Health, spoke to Philly.com about the surge in Affordable Care Act signups in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and across the country.

The publication noted that more than 600,000 people nationally have selected insurance plans in the first week of open enrollment, a pace that could double last year’s signups. Data from the current administration shows that 80 percent of purchasers in Pennsylvania can now buy the lowest-cost plan, and 61 percent of people in New Jersey will be able to get plans for less than $75 per month.

“Instead of turning people off, [the partisan debate] has really gotten people’s attention,” Ario explained. Losing out will be people who earn too much to qualify for subsidies, who will bear the full brunt of rate increases that grew significantly to make up for the recent loss of federal cost-sharing payments.
